2. Childhood Memories

Memories of Cardboard

The title of this chapter, dedicated to experiences from my grandfather’s childhood, shared, indeed, the same name with the semi-autobiographical book of Romanian writer Ion Creangă – “Childhood memories” (1892), if not a biographical book, at least one inspired from memories. Still, I will summarize in this chapter a series of events from the “stage of innocence” which Creangă relates into a whole book, fully dedicated to this period of life (from his childhood in the Moldovian village Humuleşti to the theological studies at Fălticeni and Iaşi, followed in order to become a preast). I cannot fill an entire book with memories from my grandfather’s childhood, but I succeeded in selecting a few events worth mentioning.
